“If you don’t do these things you may not have teeth by the time you are 60.” Not exactly what you want to hear when you visit your dentist.
Listen to your Doctor
Let me start by saying, for several years my dentist would tell me to wear a mouth guard at night but I foolishly choose not to listen. If your Dentist recommends wearing a night guard, pleasssse, WEAR IT! I can’t stress that enough. Your teeth are a critical part of your everyday life, you don’t want to be in position, like me, if you can avoid it.
Professional vs Store
There is a difference between professional mouth guards and store bought. They seem the same but they really are not. The best way I can example it is like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda. Guess, the old saying, “you get what you pay for” really stands true in this situation. Making your own impressions seems easy enough but you actually run the risk of worsening your bite. A poorly fitted mouth guard can have permanent damage that will need repair.
Invisalign vs Braces
So when I had to make the choice between Invisalign vs braces it was a no brainer (for me). As a mom of 3, I don’t have very much time for anything. I needed the option with the least amount of interruption to my everyday life. That’s when Invisalign comes in. I can easily remove trays to eat whatever I want, they are “invisible”, and I can remove for photos which is really important for my job. Even though they are more pricey I knew it would be the best fit for me. They range from $3500-$8000 in price. I was bummed when I learned that my insurance wouldn’t cover any of it since since I’m over the age of 19.
First 3 days
It has been 3 days since I got my trays. The first day wasn’t fun. The trays felt super uncomfortable and I developed a lisp, which is common. My dentist encouraged me to keep talking. She said it was just my tongue getting use to the trays.
A few days later my lisp is still there but not as noticeable. Also my teeth feel sore but I think that’s cuz they are starting to move. The trays don’t hurt nor did I have to file the edges down.
I will be sharing more of my experience in a few weeks!! Stay tuned.
